El ritmo en tu cuerpo
This evening we had our second Flamenco class of the week and once again there was a lot of talk about singing and dancing, to ensure the rhythm is in your head before you attempt your feet. I am still working on this but noticed the faster paced sequences felt a little easier today as I was singing more and thinking less.
Marta also spoke about keeping in time and not rushing ahead of the music and yourself. She said about feeling the rhythm in your body (El ritmo en tu cuerpo) and hearing the music to help you feel this. There is a tendency with Flamenco to panic and rush through the steps and Marta tries to encourage us to relax and enjoy the dance, and stay in time with the music. If you are tense and overthinking the steps you will race ahead in an attempt to get through the phrases correctly.
